Hong Kong Disrupted As Vicente Jolted The Region

Hong Kong was terribly disrupted when strong typhoon, Vicente, hit the region, rendering several injured and leaving transportation system paralyzed. The storm is believed to be the highest in velocity in past 13 years. The stock exchange, which was scheduled to resume in the afternoon, was temporarily postponed.

In contrary to Met Department’s prediction that the storm would move across Guangdong, the Hong Kong Observatory warned about the preexisting gale force winds in the region.

The injured people (aged 4 to 85) were hospitalized for immediate medical attention. The storm accompanied by heavy downpour inundated some areas and felled hundreds of trees overnight.

More than 250 Vicente victims have taken shelter to government provided refugee camps. The storm also affected the aviation system of the city, causing cancellation or delay of several flights.

Public transportation is officially reported to be back on track steadily on Tuesday morning.
