How to Improve Your Vocabulary

A lot of students make a herculean effort to improve vocabulary but not all of them stand on the occasion. There are many students who undergo sour experience during practice of vocabulary improvement. But, to my experience and knowledge, I think a practice towards vocabulary improvement is all about having dedication, perseverance and long-term commitment for it. That means to say, cramming few words and practicing few exercises can't render you sound vocabulary power.

To improve vocabulary, you have to be docile and dedicated fellow. You are supposed to practice a lot. The first thing you can do in this regard is to buy a standard dictionary. There are many English standard dictionary books available in the market. So, you won't have any difficulty to find out one for you. However, I will suggest you buy Oxford Advanced Dictionary. This is really a powerful dictionary, practice of which will eventually render you sound vocabulary power.

You should cultivate a habit of reading various English printed books, magazines and newspapers. Tick the words you dont understand. Find out the words in your dictionary and mug up them regularly. Don't learn words more than your will power allows you or else you will feel bored. For me, I learn 40 words in a day and repeat them constantly in my mind lest I should forget them. Before jumping to learning other words, make sure that you don't forget the last words. For this, always repeat them at your free time.

You can also gather words from Internet resources. Go through information published on various websites regarding vocabulary improvement. But, dont compromise with your comfort in this regard. Make yourself comfortable when it comes to vocabulary improvement practice. Make sure that you are constantly in touch with media sources. Watch English news, movies and programs. Learn their accent and words being used in them. Find out new and unfamiliar words in your dictionary. Eventually, you'll experience significant improvement.

Lastly, it entirely depends upon your will power and long term commitment to vocabulary improvement practice. So  long you practice hard, you can't improve your vocabulary. One more important thing, you should start conversing your friends in English. It will  add up new words to your mind. Further, You'll experience good improvement in your English communication.
