In the blindness of embracing modernization, we have virtually forgotten one and very impertinent issue of whether or not the modernization would lead catastrophic result in the long run.
Though
the post hardly relates to mine sounding agitated against modernization
(which I am absolutely not), yet the pace of modernization what I have
experienced in the journey of life has forced me contemplate these
questions. There were times when my verdant village used to be source of
unexplainable well-being with people living healthy and robust.
Everywhere to what extent the eyesight expand its range, there was
nothing but greenish environment, atmosphere and ambiance seemed to be
so pristine, godly and utterly magnificent.
My
grandfather told me story regarding his one of the adventurous hunting
expeditions. In his usual pompous, deep-pitched sonorous voice, grandpa
narrated his hunting expedition to which, he along with few henchmen,
were outnumbered by wild animals. The beasts were almost to eat them all
up raw had the reinforcement from neighboring villages not intervened
forcing the beast run for life.
The
essence is, those were the days when we had density of forests,
everywhere seemed to be enveloped under the canopy of nature's
environment. There were wild animals roaming freely in the jungle. Can
you imagine the thrill of those days?
With
introduction of modernization has also accompanied underlying sinister
deathblow to the once verdant villages that my grandpa and people of his
age witnessed. In the context of what seemed to be progressing and
developing country into full-scale developed nation has never been
contemplated to be sinisterly dreadful outcome in terms of deforestation
and virtual elimination of the vegetation.
The
village I witnessed as verdant hub with fresh air and heart-pleasing
environment has now metamorphosed into almost desert-looking place. The
grotesque figure of pollution which was quite an anonymous in those days
is now getting murkier with each passing days.
I
concur, this piece of narration conveys pathetic story of the entire
world. Under the pretext of modernization, we have put our earth on
danger. The human race and all creatures fostering on the earth are on
the brink of annihilation. The recent NASA report has warned the world
about advent of global warming saying that the global temperature is
inching up formidably and has caused slowing down world economic output
by 1.6%.
Unfortunately,
the senseless and the dumb human beings seldom pay serious heed to this
impending threat. The beauty of my village accentuated by the adornment
of greenish vegetation has taken its toll just because the
modernization has deforested village. Today we have railway system
running across the village on track to destinations like Darbhanga and
other cities of Mithilanchal, but the villages had to sacrifice its
green life to welcome this modernization.
True
that modernization demands sacrifice. Sometimes it renders people
homeless, but most of the time, only the nature has to sacrifice. Far
are not those days when human existence will be annihilated once for
all. This is not a threatening call. This is a Reality. The pace of
human's annihilation may seem very slow, but don’t forget its inevitable
if we don’t pull up our socks NOW!!
